Dallas Jesuit alum and former Oral Roberts guard Max Abmas is transferring to the University of Texas.

The fifth-year senior chose Texas over Kansas State and announced his decision on Twitter with a mock-up of himself in a Texas uniform, captioned “I’m coming home.”

Shortly after, Oral Roberts responded with a graphic of all his accomplishments and a message that simply read, “Thank you, Max.”

“I’m just excited for him,” Dallas Jesuit head basketball coach Chris Hill told The Dallas Express. “I think it’s one of those things where he was looking for the right fit and something to be excited about.”

“Max is one of those kids where there was not a wrong decision because of the kind of kid he is,” Hill continued. “… The school wasn’t going to determine whether this works out or not as much as his attitude. He usually takes a good focused attitude to whatever he does, so he was really in a no-lose [situation] the whole time.”

The point guard spent four years at Oral Roberts, leading the Golden Eagles to two Summit League titles, two NCAA Tournament appearances, and an unlikely run to the Sweet 16 in 2021.

Abmas broke out during that season as the nation’s leading scorer with 24.5 points per game and averaged 26.7 during the Cinderella run.

The Golden Eagles returned to the NCAA Tournament after winning 30 games and its second Summit League championship in three years, but lost to five-seed Duke in the first round.

Abmas had just 12 points on 4-15 shooting but finished the season as the ninth-best scorer in the country with 21.9 points.

In his collegiate career, Abmas averages 20.8 points and shoots 38.8% from three-point range and 43.7% from the field overall. He leaves Oral Roberts as the programs 10th-leading scorer and fourth-best three-point shooter.

Abmas has one year of college eligibility remaining. NCAA rules prohibit Texas from commenting on his commitment until he is officially signed.

He is the second transfer to commit to Texas this offseason, joining Virginia transfer Kadin Shedrick.

Texas needed to add a guard as it could lose up to five guards and recently lost the commitment of AJ Johnson, who decided to play professionally in Australia.
