The University of Oklahoma has added a statue of Arizona Cardinals quarterback Kyler Murray to its on-campus “Heisman Park.”

Murray’s statue was revealed during the program’s spring game activities in Oklahoma City and Norman over the weekend and depicts the Allen, Texas, High School product about to deliver a pass down the field.

This is the second consecutive year the Sooners have added a statue to the park, with Baker Mayfield being added last April.

Oklahoma honors each of its past Heisman Trophy winners with a statue. Murray became the seventh Sooner to win the Heisman in 2018, joining Mayfield, Sam Bradford, Jason White, Billy Sims, Steven Owens, and Billy Vessels.

“It was a special deal,” Murray said in a press conference after the spring game. “I was telling people that I envisioned winning a Heisman, but to do it and then to be received this way by the whole town, the city, the school, [and my] teammates; the recognition was a surreal moment, special for my family and me, and it was a special deal.”

Murray transferred from Texas A&M to Oklahoma in December 2015. In his only season as the Sooners’ starting quarterback, the Allen native threw for 4,361 yards with 42 touchdowns and only seven interceptions, leading the Sooners to the College Football Playoff and beating out Ohio State’s Dwayne Haskins and Alabama’s Tua Tagovailoa for the Heisman.

Murray had been drafted by the Oakland Athletics with the ninth overall pick in the 2018 MLB Draft but chose to stick with football. The Cardinals selected him with the first overall pick in the 2019 NFL Draft.

Since being drafted, Murray has become one of the fastest quarterbacks to reach 10,000 passing yards, winning the 2019 Offensive Rookie of the Year award and being named to the Pro Bowl twice.

Last July, the Cardinals gave him a five-year contract extension that keeps him with the team through the 2028 season.
