The No. 1 Texas Longhorns will take on the No. 5 Georgia Bulldogs in Austin tonight at 6:30 p.m., as each team will face the toughest opponent of their seasons in this primetime matchup.
The Longhorns enter this game with a perfect record of 6-0 on the season. They have won every game of their season by at least 19 points and have only trailed for a total of 3 minutes and 50 seconds all season, according to College Football on Fox.
Texas has taken down two teams that were ranked in the Top 25 at the time of the matchup: a 31-12 road win against No. 10 Michigan and a 34-3 win against No. 18 Oklahoma.
Similarly, Georgia enters the matchup with a slightly worse record, at 5-1, and has shown stretches of dominance despite one loss and multiple close wins.
The Bulldogs have faced two ranked opponents this season. They defeated No. 14 Clemson 34-3 in their season opener and lost to No. 4 Alabama 41-34 in one of the most exciting games of the season.
Both offenses have proven impressive through their first six games of the season, with the Longhorns having a slight advantage with an average of 495.7 total yards and 43.2 points per game, according to Sports Illustrated.
Georgia’s offense is slightly less explosive but still ranks among the best in the nation, with averages of 452 total yards and 33.5 points per game.
Although the two teams are ranked in the top five this season, the Longhorns are currently favored to defeat the Bulldogs by 3.5 points, which would end Georgia’s streak of 49 straight games as the betting favorite if this line stays the same, per ESPN.
This matchup would be the first time since Georgia’s season opener against Clemson in 2021 that the team has entered a game as the underdog, trailing behind only the University of Alabama at 92 consecutive games for the longest streak of all time.
