The next round of the baseball playoffs is heating up as the National League teams are all currently tied at 1-1, and the American League teams head into game two this afternoon.
National League
San Diego Downs LA to Even Series 1-1
The San Diego Padres defeated the Los Angeles Dodgers 5-3 on Wednesday night, tying the NL Division Series at one game apiece, thanks to a game-winning single by Jurickson Profar in the sixth inning. Manny Machado led the game with a home run and an RBI double off Clayton Kershaw.
“One-one going back home,” Machado told MLB.com. “So that’s huge.”
After a day off on Thursday, the best-of-five series resumes with Game 3 in San Diego on Friday.
The wild-card Padres defeated the rival Dodgers for the first time in a playoff game. In the 2020 Division Series, the Dodgers swept San Diego 3-0, and the Padres lost Game 1 of this series on Tuesday.
Profar, who was moved from first to seventh in the batting order for the game, singled to right field off reliever Brusdar Graterol, who took the loss. Jake Cronenworth scored to un-tie the game at 4-3.
In the eighth inning, Cronenworth hit a homer off Blake Treinen, and Josh Hader recorded his first four-out save since doing so against the Brewers in 2020.
Heading into play on Thursday, October 13, in the National League, the Dodgers and Padres are tied 1-1 heading back to San Diego, and The Braves and Phillies are also tied 1-1, heading to Philly.
