The NBA has suspended an employee for two weeks without pay after the individual posted comments on social media celebrating the assassination of political commentator Charlie Kirk.

Screenshots of the employee’s posts circulated widely on social media, sparking public outrage and renewed debate over accountability in professional settings. The poster’s social media profile prominently featured the NBA logo, and a LinkedIn account identified him as working for NBA Entertainment, Outkick reported.

The NBA confirmed that the posts violated multiple league policies regarding employee behavior and that action was taken to reprimand the employee, who has not been named at this time.

“The project employee has been suspended without pay for two weeks for violating multiple NBA policies,” the league said in a statement sent to OutKick.

The employee’s posts, which appeared as temporary stories on two social media sites and have since expired, presented harsh language directed at Kirk, with multiple different posts being made about the political commentator.

“Did absolutely nothing healthy for the world except spew dangerous rhetoric … There is no legacy … he was a terrible person (a shi*h*l*),” stated one of the posts, referring to Kirk’s death.

“Oh, I also forgot to include ‘thoughts and prayers’ LMAO,” wrote the employee in another post.

The NBA has faced scrutiny in recent years over employee behavior and the enforcement of its policies, particularly as social media continues to amplify public attention to private remarks.

While the NBA did not indicate whether further disciplinary action is expected, the league reiterated that all employees must adhere to social media and conduct guidelines, reinforcing a zero-tolerance approach for posts that threaten or celebrate violence.

Beyond the NBA, Charlie Kirk has remained a prominent figure in political and media circles, with the U.S. government taking steps to help preserve his legacy since his assassination.

As previously reported by The Dallas Express, the U.S. Department of State recently announced that it will revoke visas for foreign nationals who celebrated the assassination of the Turning Point USA founder.

Meanwhile, President Donald Trump honored Kirk with a Medal of Freedom on his 32nd birthday, saying that he wanted to “honor and remember a fearless warrior for liberty.”

Trump later said the killing of the Turning Point USA founder was “horrible” and “heinous,” further condemning political violence and the destruction that it can bring.
