The Milano Cortina 2026 Winter Olympics kicked off preliminary competitions on Wednesday, February 4, 2026, with mixed doubles curling round-robin matches.

The official opening ceremony is scheduled for February 6 in Milan, Italy.

This event will mark the beginning of 16 days of competitions across eight sports, featuring 116 medal events in the alpine regions of northern Italy.

The Games, co-hosted by Milan and Cortina d’Ampezzo, are the first Winter Olympics in Italy since Turin 2006 and feature a record number of participating nations and athletes in several disciplines, including new events in freestyle skiing and snowboarding.

The opening ceremony at San Siro Stadium will feature cultural performances showcasing Italian heritage, with the Olympic flame lit through a traditional handover, according to official Milano Cortina 2026 information on Olympics.com.

NBC Sports, the U.S. broadcaster, selected Comcast Technology Solutions to manage multiscreen video delivery and distribution for its coverage, ensuring live streams, on-demand highlights, and enhanced viewing on Peacock and other platforms.

“NBC Sports will utilize Comcast Sports360 from Comcast Technology Solutions, which includes CTS’ Cloud Video Platform, to manage on-demand content and metadata, and publish video across devices, sites, and apps,” the company announced in a press release on February 4, as reported by Yahoo Finance.

Early events, such as curling, began on February 4, drawing attention to key storylines, including American skier Lindsey Vonn’s planned participation despite a recent ACL injury, as reported previously by The Dallas Express.

Viewership is expected to be strong worldwide, with the Games projected to generate significant economic impact in the host regions.

For schedules, athlete profiles, and live coverage details, U.S. broadcasting information is available via NBC Olympics.

The competition continues through February 22, with highlights including Alpine skiing, figure skating, ice hockey, and biathlon events across multiple venues in Lombardy and Veneto. No major disruptions were reported in the lead-up, and organizers emphasized sustainability and accessibility measures for spectators and athletes, as noted by The New York Times Athletic.
