Lovejoy senior soccer star Michael Myers will be taking his act to the University of Texas at Tyler, recently signing a letter of intent with their program.
Fresh off a senior season where he was tabbed co-offensive MVP, Myers is already thinking of what could be in his future beyond Texas Tyler.
“I’m looking forward to the experience, and to see how much I can grow there,” he recently told The Red Ledger. “We’ll see if I can end up [playing soccer] past college.”
Myers insists Texas Tyler was always on his radar.
“With COVID-19, it was tough, but UT Tyler was always on my map,” he said. “After I went to visit the campus, it was really pretty, and I had some old teammates go there. After discussing with schools and with my parents, I think [I] just decided to go there because I knew some people, and the coach was very nice and relatable.”
Myers said he feels at home on the soccer field.
“[I enjoy] how much fun I have playing it,” he said. “[Soccer is] just one of those things where when I’m on the field, I know what I’m doing 100%, and I’m in my comfort zone completely.”
Myers counts going to nationals with his club soccer team as his biggest on-field accomplishment thus far.
“It is my first time going to nationals for soccer, and I’m just really proud that as a senior, hopefully I can go out as a national champion,” he said.
