The Dallas Cowboys defense was dominant in a 22-10 win over the Los Angeles Rams in Week 5 on Sunday, with linebacker Micah Parsons playing a central role in the victory.

For his part in the defensive performance, Parsons was named the NFC Defensive Player of the Week on Wednesday. It is the second time that Dallas’ 2021 first-round pick has won the weekly honor, the first coming after Week 8 of his rookie season.

Parsons finished the game against the Rams with five total tackles, one for a loss, three quarterback hits, a forced fumble, and two sacks, including one that caused a fumble near the game’s end that sealed the positive outcome for the 4-1 Cowboys.

Parsons is currently tied for the league lead in sacks (6.0), recording at least two sacks in three of the season’s first five games. The second-year standout is among the all-time NFL leaders in sacks to begin a career.

Making his defensive display even more impressive, Parsons performed against Los Angeles while battling a groin injury for most of the game.

Parsons will work this week to get healthier as the Cowboys prepare to face the undefeated Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday night in his home state of Pennsylvania.

This weekly award is the first by any Cowboys player this season. Last year, a Dallas player won it five times, including three by Dak Prescott for Offensive Player of the Week and twice on defense with Parsons and Trevon Diggs (Week 4).

The other honorees of the NFC player of the week awards were; New Orleans’ utility player Taysom Hill, the Offensive Player of the Week, and Philadelphia Eagles kicker and former Texas Longhorn Cameron Dicker, who was named Special Teams Player of the Week.

Dicker is the third former Longhorns kicker to earn the weekly honor, joining Justin Tucker (11-time winner) and Phil Dawson (six).
