A couple of well-known fighters made headlines in South Florida over the weekend.

Floyd Mayweather Jr. faced John Gotti III in an exhibition fight on Sunday in Sunrise, Florida. The fight only lasted six rounds as the fighters continued to jaw at each other.

The referee struggled to keep them apart, ultimately calling the match when Gotti was reportedly disqualified for grabbing.

After the fight was called, Gotti and Mayweather kept trash-talking, and Gotti fought through the referee to get to Mayweather. Their teams attempted to restrain them, but those attempts failed, and a brawl ensued.

Gotti even kept it going through videos on his Instagram story after leaving the venue, calling Mayweather an “enemy for life” and writing captions like, “Bum never put me down or stopped me. It was DQ for no reason.” and “Media got it wrong as well. Not that it matters or not. The referee called the fight off completely. There was no disqualification.”

He also called out some members of Mayweather’s team.

Mayweather has not commented since the incident.

Gotti is 2-0 in his boxing career and 5-1 as an MMA fighter, while Mayweather has not fought professionally since a 2017 victory against Conor McGregor.

McGregor later tweeted his support for Gotti, saying, “I back the Gottis. The war is on.”

McGregor also made news this weekend as he was part of a partnership announcement gone wrong.

The MMA legend attended Game 4 of the NBA Finals on Friday night in Miami and joined Miami Heat mascot, Burnie, on the court during a timeout in the third quarter to announce a partnership between the team and his TIDL Sport pain relief spray as fans booed him loudly.

The announcement was meant to feature a couple light-hearted jabs between McGregor and the mascot and finish with the fighter spraying his product on a wounded Burnie, but two blows from McGregor sent the person playing Burnie to the hospital, where he received medication and was sent home.

The game continued as the Denver Nuggets earned a 108-95 victory to take a 3-1 lead in the series.
