Formula One racecar driver Max Verstappen won his 10th consecutive race with a victory at the Italian Grand Prix in Monza, Italy, on Sunday, setting a new Formula One record.

Verstappen entered the race tied with Sebastian Vettel, who won nine consecutive races in 2013, and took the lead on the 15th lap on Sunday to preserve his streak and set the new mark.

“I would have never thought something like this was possible,” Verstappen told the media following the race. “It’s an incredible streak, I guess, and just another great weekend, especially today as a team.”

After Vettel, the next longest streak in Formula One is seven wins in a row, achieved by multiple drivers.

Verstappen has won every race he has participated in since the beginning of May and has won 12 of the 14 Formula One races this season.

Sergio Perez, Verstappen’s Red Bull Racing teammate and the second-place finisher in Sunday’s race, is the only other Formula One driver to win any races this season, taking the wins in Saudi Arabia and Azerbaijan.

“We really executed well,” Verstappen said. “[We’re] Very happy to win here at Monza, and also, of course, very happy to have [the top] two as a team. It’s never the easiest of weekends to execute a strong weekend.”

Red Bull Racing commemorated Verstappen’s record-breaking victory with a short video on its website. The team has won each Formula One race so far this season and could become the first team to win every race in a single season if the trend continues.

There are still eight races left, including two in the United States.

The next race is the Singapore Grand Prix from September 15 to September 17, and the season concludes with the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix in late November.

Verstappen has won 47 races overall with two Formula One Championships. He set another record with 15 wins last season and is positioned to possibly surpass that total by season’s end.
