The Dallas Mavericks have re-signed forward P.J. Washington to a four-year contract worth $90 million.

As previously reported by The Dallas Express, Washington was in line for a massive payday when he became eligible for a contract extension last week, with the $90 million that he received being the maximum amount of money the team could pay.

The extension begins after the 2025-26 season, when Washington’s current deal paying just over $14 million expires.

As a result, Washington will be tied to the Mavericks for the foreseeable future, with his new contract keeping him in Dallas through the 2029-2030 season, according to NBA Insider Shams Charania.

This extension comes as no surprise following one of the most productive seasons in Washington’s career, as the forward averaged 14.7 points, 7.8 rebounds, and 2.3 assists while shooting 45.3% from the field and 38.1% from three.

Washington has also proven to be one of the most effective wing defenders on the Mavericks’ roster, with the 6-foot-6-inch forward often being tasked with guarding the opposing team’s best player.

Washington’s defensive expertise and ability to stretch the floor have made him one of the most important pieces of a Mavericks team that is looking to compete for an NBA championship next season.

Dallas has undergone a massive shakeup in roster personnel over the past year and is now looking to return to the NBA Finals.

The Mavericks previously added power forward Anthony Davis and guard Max Christie in a trade with the Los Angeles Lakers while also adding rookie phenom Cooper Flagg in the NBA Draft and guard D’Angelo Russell in free agency.

These additions should help the Mavericks stay afloat while guard Kyrie Irving works his way back from a torn ACL, though no official timeline has been set for his return to the court.

Moving forward, the Mavericks have many of their key players locked up on long-term contracts, with only Spencer Dinwiddie and Dante Exum currently having contract lengths that would guarantee free agency after the upcoming season.
