The Dallas Mavericks have announced a new broadcasting partnership with TEGNA that will allow the franchise to stream games for free to approximately 10 million people across Texas.
This partnership comes just two weeks after the organization announced it would be mutually parting ways with Diamond Sports Group, which broadcasted games on Bally Sports regional sports networks, as previously reported by The Dallas Express.
The organization stated that TEGNA will stream every Mavericks game that is not exclusively televised nationally, meaning fans will be able to watch more than 70 games for free.
TEGNA will stream games on KMPX Dallas-Ft. Worth (Ch. 29) for those located in Dallas, along with stations in Waco (KCEN and KAGS), Tyler (KYTX), Midland-Odessa (KWES), Abilene (KXVA), and San Angelo (KIDY), according to the Mavericks.
In addition to the partnership with TEGNA, the Mavericks announced that WFAA has become the “official local broadcast partner” and will take fans behind the scenes of the organization throughout the season.
Mavericks Governor Patrick Dumont said in a statement that this new deal will help the team carry over its momentum from the 2023-2024 season into the upcoming year.
“We are looking forward to giving Dallas Mavericks fans every opportunity possible to watch our exciting team build on the momentum of its incredible run to the NBA Finals last season,” he said.
“Our new agreement with TEGNA helps meaningfully deliver on that goal by broadcasting more games to more local homes than in any period in franchise history. Through our new partnership with TEGNA and our expanded relationship with WFAA, more Mavs fans than ever before will be able to watch the team they love.”
Mavericks CEO Cynt Marshall added to this statement by saying that the team wanted to provide even more access to supporters by “bringing our games to more MFFLs across Texas.”
“It was a pleasure working with TEGNA last season to deliver additional viewing experiences for ten games. Building on the overwhelmingly positive feedback received, we look forward to providing millions more Mavs fans access to watch our games throughout the entire season. Stay tuned, and let’s go Mavs!”
The Mavericks are not the first Dallas-based professional sports team to offer free streaming of games after leaving a previous partnership. The Stars recently announced that they would also be parting ways with Diamond Sports Group to pursue other opportunities.
The Stars will now stream all regional games for free as part of a partnership with A Parent Media Co. Inc., with viewers located in Texas, Oklahoma, Louisiana, and Arkansas being able to watch the games on a new Victory+ application, as reported by DX.
