Texas Christian University is set to take on the University of Texas in the NCAA Women’s Basketball tonight at 6 p.m. to determine which team will represent the Lone Star State in the Final Four.
TCU is in the midst of its best season in program history after winning both the Big 12 regular season championship and Big 12 tournament while also making its first Final Four appearance.
The Horned Frogs have been led in this tournament by guard Hailey Van Lith and center Sedona Prince, who have combined to average 37 points, 12.7 rebounds, and 10 assists in three games.
Meanwhile, Texas has been led in its first three games by forward Madison Booker, who has led the Longhorns in scoring in every tournament game while averaging 19 points, 8.7 rebounds, and 2.7 assists.
Although the Longhorns have reached the Final Four in previous seasons, this is their first appearance in the round since the 2003 tournament, which ended with a 71-69 loss to the UCONN Huskies.
Texas head coach Vic Schaefer has now led the Longhorns to four Elite Eight appearances during his five seasons as the head coach, though Texas has lost its last three appearances before this season.
“That game is very difficult and you gotta have kids that can just kinda block out all the distractions and everything around ’em and just go play the game,” he said, per Yahoo Sports.
The two teams feature nine players from Texas, including six Longhorns from the Lone Star State.
“As you know, when you are at the University of Texas, you try to close the borders and close the walls and keep the good ones in the state,” said Schaefer, as reported by Yahoo Sports.
Unsurprisingly, TCU head coach Mark Campbell had high praise for Schaefer and the entire Texas team.
“There’s not many holes. They’re incredible. They have size and great post play,” said Campbell, according to The Austin American-Statesman.
“They have depth, really athletic, have one of the best point guards in college basketball. And they’re a 1 seed for a reason. So we’re going to have to play a heck of a game and Coach Vic and his staff obviously do a tremendous job with their system, style of play.”
This game will be available to watch on ESPN and streamed on Fubo. The winner will face South Carolina in a Final Four matchup later this week.
