Frisco Liberty High School was the only girls’ basketball team from the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex to win a Texas UIL state championship this season, winning the 5A state title over Lubbock Cooper 57-52 on March 4.

Liberty (27-10) started the season 1-3 but finished the regular season with 18 wins in its last 21 games, won all five playoff games in its regional bracket by double digits, and knocked off San Antonio Wagner in the state semifinals.

Guard Keyera Roseby was named the tournament MVP after scoring 21 points and collecting eight rebounds in the championship game.

Meanwhile, the boys’ UIL state tournaments continue this week at the Alamodome in San Antonio, with the state semifinals on Thursday and Friday and the state finals on Saturday. There are five teams remaining from the DFW area.

Each team won its regional bracket and was re-seeded once it reached the semifinals.
