Cason Wallace, Richardson basketball superstar, has been recognized with a further two accolades in his burgeoning career.

On March 17, the five-star Kentucky recruit, previously named a McDonald’s All-American selection, was recognized as the Gatorade Texas Boys Basketball Player of the Year and selected as a Jordan Brand Classic All-American.

The skillful teen is the first Dallas-area player to achieve the distinguished Player of the Year award since Little Elm’s R.J. Hampton in 2019. Hampton is in his second season in the NBA and plays for the Orlando Magic.

Besides Wallace, previous winners include Hall of Famer Chris Bosh from Lincoln; Katy Cypress Lakes product De’Aaron Fox of the Sacramento Kings, and Flower Mound graduate Marcus Smart of the Boston Celtics.

This past season, Wallace — a 6’4″ senior guard — led the Eagles (32-2) to the Conference 6A regional quarterfinals, averaging 19.9 points, 7.4 rebounds, and 6.1 assists per game. He also had 2.4 steals and 1.5 blocks per game. Rivals.com ranks him as the nation’s No. 5 recruit in the Class of 2022.

Additionally, Wallace is a reputable student-athlete leadership team member at Richardson. He has engaged in local volunteering projects as a trainer, youth tutor, and youth basketball coach.

“Cason is the type of player you dream about coaching,” said Kevin Lawson in a news release.

Lawson said every time Wallace sets foot on the court, he is the best rebounder, scorer, defender, and leader in play, upping his teammates’ game.

Gatorade Player of the Year award honorees have won hundreds of professional and college championships since the program began in 1985. Many have gone on to become coaches, business leaders, and educators in their communities.
