Dallas South Oak Cliff four-star cornerback Malik Muhammad has committed to the University of Texas.

The South Oak Cliff Golden Bear is ranked as the No.44 overall prospect and No.6 cornerback in the nation for the 2023 class by 247Sports. The star cornerback chose the University of Texas over offers from Alabama, Texas A&M, Georgia, Ohio State, and more than three dozen other colleges.

Muhammad is the second Top 50 defensive back to commit to the Longhorns for the 2023 class, joining safety Derek Williams from New Iberia, Louisiana’s Westgate High School. Williams is rated a five-star recruit and No.32 overall national prospect by 247Sports.

He is also joining his cousin and South Oak Cliff teammate, Billy Walton, in the 2023 University of Texas Freshman class, as well as lifelong friend, wide receiver Johntay Cook, from DeSoto High School. His other cousin and South Oak Cliff teammate, Abdul Muhammad, is a three-star cornerback committed to SMU.

Muhammad made 68 tackles, intercepted three passes, returned one for a touchdown, and broke up six passes in his junior year for the Golden Bears, who won the 5A Division II state championship in December, Dallas ISD’s first football title in 58 years.

Muhammad may have foreshadowed his decision in a tweet earlier this month when he wrote that he had won a championship at every level of Texas football, from little league to middle school, and last year with South Oak Cliff.

“All in Texas,” he wrote. “Seem like I got unfinished [business].”

The talented Dallas-area prospect “[p]rojects to a high level multi-year starter at a Power Five program with the ability to develop into an all-conference player at the next level,” according to 247Sports’ recruiting analyst Cooper Petagna.

Muhammad is the 19th player in the class of 2023 to commit to Texas and the ninth from the Dallas area. The Longhorns’ 2023 class is currently ranked No.4 in 247Sports’ composite team recruiting class rankings

The other eight Dallas-area commits to the Longhorns’ 2023 recruiting class so far, and their 247Sports overall national ranking, are listed below:
