Dallas Cowboys owner and general manager Jerry Jones spoke Tuesday about the team’s injury situation and potential trade activity ahead of the November 4 NFL trade deadline.
As previously reported by The Dallas Express, Dallas has faced early season struggles due to injuries and inconsistent defensive play, issues Jones believes could soon improve.
Dallas has dealt with a variety of injuries on both sides of the ball, and Jones said some of the team’s most important players could return in Week 7.
Jones was asked about the potential availability of wide receiver CeeDee Lamb, offensive guard Tyler Booker, and wide receiver KaVontae Turpin, saying there have been positive signs for all three.
“Without being doctor here and without the benefit of a week of practice, we are thumbs up on all. It’s looking good but that’s just it, you gotta have a week of practice,” he explained, per ESPN’s Todd Archer.
All three players have missed multiple weeks due to lower body injuries, with Booker and Lamb both suffering high ankle sprains and Turpin recovering from a foot injury.
Despite the Dallas offense being one of the most efficient in the league to begin the season, adding these three players back into the lineup could supercharge the unit and help carry the team to more victories.
Jones said the team is also evaluating ways to improve through the trade market as the November 4 trade deadline approaches.
“If we can improve our team and it makes sense for what we give up in the future, all of it’s there. We have major, major, major resources that we wouldn’t have had had we not made that trade. … I promise you, yours truly or anybody associated with the Cowboys has got our eyes really opened to ways we can help this defense and certainly don’t want to preclude anything on offense, either,” he said, per Jon Machota.
“There’s nothing untouchable in our resources to help our team. And there’s no way that I’m at a point right now to where I would not do something because of where we are into the season, six games. I would go as early as I would if we were talking three games back.”
Notably, Dallas acquired two additional future first round selections when the franchise chose to trade away defensive end Micah Parsons, giving the Cowboys significantly more draft capital than many other teams in the league.
Although Dallas is unlikely to trade one of those two first round picks, the extra capital could give the team more flexibility to make a move for an impactful player.
The most likely trade scenario would bring in a defensive player in exchange for draft capital, as the team continues to seek help on defense.
