The first round of the Texas High School Football playoffs is in the books after an exciting week of games. There were not many shocking results in the first round for Dallas area teams aside from previously undefeated Garland High losing to the Tyler Legacy High team that had only four wins on the season going into the game.

Garland lost 41-40 and missed what would have been a game-winning field goal with just seconds left on the clock when the snap went over the holder’s head. The loss was stunning, as Garland was expecting to make a deep run in the 6A Division II playoffs. Tyler Legacy will play 7-4 Cedar Hill in the next round.

Another exciting game was between Prosper and Flower Mound Marcus, also in 6A Division II. Prosper entered the game at 6-4 and Marcus at 8-2. In the end, Prosper edged Marcus for a nail-biting 28-21 overtime win. This is the second consecutive season that Prosper has ended Marcus’ season in the playoffs. Prosper will play 7-4 Grand Prairie in the next round.

The second round of the playoffs begins this Thursday with several intriguing matchups across all divisions for Dallas area teams.

One compelling matchup will be in 5A Division I between 10-1 Highland Park and 8-2 Frisco Wakeland. Wakeland is led by running back Jared White, who scored three touchdowns in their first-round win over Woodrow Wilson. White will need another huge game to take down the powerhouse that is Highland Park.

In 6A Division II, Denton Guyer and Dallas Jesuit faceoff, both defending their one-loss seasons. 10-1 Rockwall-Heath will play a 9-2 Temple team. Both of these matchups should be exciting, with several college prospects all over the fields.
