After 22 seasons, legendary quarterback Tom Brady is expected to announce his formal retirement from professional football soon. ESPN broke the news after inside sources were told that Brady had decided this past season would be his last. TB 12 Sports, owned by Tom Brady, tweeted a confirmation of Brady’s retirement, but it has since been taken down.

Tom Brady’s retirement has been kept mostly in the dark, with Brady himself stating that he never wanted a “farewell season.” He also has put off an official announcement because he does not intend to interfere with the NFL postseason and Super Bowl, ESPN says. However, Brady’s agent Don Yee stated that an announcement will come soon, effectively solidifying Brady’s retirement.

Tom E Curran, for NBC Sports, reported that Brady told the Tampa Bay Buccaneers that no decisions have been finalized as of now.

“At the moment, Tom Brady is out of the country and plans to be abroad next week as well. While he may intend to retire, it seems like a final, final, FINAL decision hasn’t been rendered or articulated,” Curran tweeted

Don Yee stated, “Without getting into the accuracy or inaccuracy of what’s being reported, Tom will be the only person to express his plans with complete accuracy. He knows the realities of the football business and planning calendar as well as anybody, so that should be soon.” No dates have been named yet, but it is clear that Brady’s retirement is in the near future.

If you were to ask kids today who is the best football player of all time, a sizable portion would echo “Tom Brady,” and for good reason. Brady has more passing touchdowns (624), career wins, and Super Bowl rings than any other player (or franchise) in history. Brady served as the driving force for a run of championships with the New England Patriots.

At the age of 44, Brady has played 365 games of football, his career spanning decades. Brady has amassed so many awards and accolades, it is barely possible to list them. The most prestigious include being a three-time NFL MVP, a five-time Super Bowl MVP, and a two-time NFL Offensive Player of the Year.

Twitter began filling with goat emojis and words of endearment towards Brady, who had been an unforgettable teammate for many younger stars. Patrick Mahomes, Julian Edelman, and many more voiced their thanks for Brady’s contributions.

“An absolute honor to share this field with you through so many battles! Enjoy retirement,” stated Adrian Peterson.
