The PGA Championship returns to North Texas next year after a 64-year gap without a men’s professional golf major in the region.

With the Masters underway, local golfers look ahead to the 2027 event at the Fields Ranch East course at PGA Frisco from May 17-23.

Jack Nicklaus captured the last major here, the 1963 PGA Championship at Dallas Athletic Club. The area’s only prior PGA Championship occurred in 1927 at Cedar Crest Country Club in Dallas.

North Texas venues also held U.S. Opens in 1952 at the Northwood Club in Dallas and 1941 at the Colonial Country Club in Fort Worth.

PGA Frisco opened in May 2023, the result of a collaboration between the City of Frisco, the Omni PGA Frisco Resort, and the PGA of America. It houses the PGA headquarters and boasts three golf courses, 13 dining outlets and a resort and spa. It hosted its first official tournament — the 83rd annual KitchenAid Senior PGA Championship — on May 24-28, 2023.

Ticket demand for next year’s Championship will be strong.

Fans can register now through May 18 for a chance to purchase tickets on the tournament’s website.
