The Rowlett Eagles boys soccer program has sent one of their own to the Volunteer State to further his academic and athletic careers.

Before he bade farewell to the UIL Class 6A school, Tyler Griffin cemented his pledge to the University of Memphis.

His now-former team couldn’t have been any prouder.

“Congratulations to Tyler Griffin @tsgriffin4 for signing with Memphis State @MemphisMSoccer,” the soccer team’s Twitter account posted last April. “Thank you for your dedication at Rowlett and good luck.”

Griffin was part of a program that put together a 13-6-5 record in 2021 to earn its 18th consecutive playoff appearance, the Rowlett Lakeshore Times reported.

The Eagles fell 1-0 to eventual state finalist Rockwall-Heath in the bi-district round but received all-district recognition.

Griffin himself landed on the first team despite missing part of the season because of an injury.

He joins a Memphis program that struggled its way to a 2-8 finish that included no home victories.
