Southern Methodist University and the City of Dallas have teamed up once again, this time to offer free football tickets to the city’s employees and first-responders.

According to a recent press release, the two entities have worked together in the past for “community service and the ‘Born and Raised’ and ‘Triple-D/Pony’ marketing initiatives.” Their partnership is a “part of their ongoing efforts to engage with one another.”

This most recent promotion idea resulted from a conversation between Dallas Mayor Eric Johnson and SMU Director of Athletics Rick Hart during the SMU-Tulane game. Their respective staff then ‘took the ball and ran with it,’ working out the details and logistics of the promotion.

The press release states, “SMU athletics will offer free game tickets to City of Dallas employees and first-responders for the final two regular-season home football games.”

According to SMU’s website, City of Dallas employees and first-responders can receive up to four tickets for free per employee. The first opportunity to utilize the free ticket offer is on Saturday, November 13, at 11:00 am, when the SMU Mustangs will face off against the UCF Knights at the Ford Stadium. The final regular-season home game will be on November 27 against Tulsa.

“SMU football games bring our Dallas communities together. We value our city’s strong partnership with SMU, and we are thrilled that our public servants will have the opportunity to cheer on their city’s college football team during the final home games of this terrific season,”  said Mayor Eric Johnson.

“As Dallas’ college football team, we greatly appreciate the City’s and the Mayor’s efforts to continue to build connections. It will be our pleasure to welcome City of Dallas employees and first-responders for these games, and we will keep looking for new ways to deepen our connection to Dallas,” stated Hart.

In 2021, SMU added to their jersey rotation, bringing on a Dallas-themed blue jersey, similar to their 2019 addition of the white jerseys.

SMU offers the only NCAA FBS program in Dallas and is “ranked among the Top 20% of best national universities by U.S. News and World Report,” as stated in the press release.

This season, SMU Mustangs have won every game except two close games against Houston and Memphis.
