Plano East golf star Meagan Winans saved some of her most riveting work for her final act.

After a run at Plano where she finished in at least top five in every event she competed in, collecting All-District, All-Region and All-State honors along the way, Winans fired a two-day score of 144 to finish second in the 6A Golf Championships.

“Congratulations to Meagan Winans who finished second in the 6A State Golf Championship,” the team posted on its Twitter page. “Meagan fired rounds of 75-69. Thank you Meagan for four amazing years and representing Plano East and Plano ISD with class.”

After also making a name for herself on the Northern Teas Junior Tour, next up for Winans in the University of Oklahoma, where she recently signed as part of the 2021 recruiting class.

“Meagan comes in with a very strong resume,” Oklahoma coach Veronique Drouin-Luttrell told SoonerSports.com. “She’s going to be a great addition to our team and is a huge recruit for us. Obviously, she’ll be joining her sister Libby here in Norman, and having both of the Winans girls on our team is cool for their family and us as a program.”

Largely based on her top-five finish in the Kathy Whiteworth Invitational, Golfweek rates the younger Winans as the No. 13 recruit in the country and No. 2 in the state of Texas.

Over time, Winans said settling on Oklahoma essentially seemed like a no-brainer.

“Oklahoma is just a place where I see myself improving and winning a national championship with my teammates,” she said. “I’m comfortable with the coaches and know that we have a great relationship through golf. The on-campus practice facilities and support from prominent alumni make OU a unique and elite Division I golf program.”
