The just-concluded Class 6A Region I semifinal series between Southlake Carroll and Flower Mound Marcus was essentially a primer on Southlake’s championship pedigree, with the Dragons blanking the Marauders to extend their back-to-back state title defense in the last and final game.
Game 2, which was played at Flower Mound on May 28, was not only a 9-0 shutout win for the Dragons but the Owen Proksch show as well.
The 6-foot-two-inch junior southpaw delivered a no-hitter against Marcus before stepping away from the mound because of the UIL-mandated limit of 110 pitches, setting up Luke Gornell to hand the final out.
“The Dragons win over FM Marcus 9-0 behind a no hit gem from Owen Prokch. He went 6.2 innings, allowing 0R on 0H w/ 10Ks. Gornell threw the last out to close it out. Carroll put up 9R on 9H tonight,” the Southlake baseball team’s Twitter account announced post-game.
Gunnar Krug powered the Dragons offense with a 2-for-3 performance at the plate.
Krug also recorded four stolen bases in the contest.
This is the third consecutive year in which Southlake dashed Marcus’ title hopes.
Ahead for the Dragons is a 6A Region 1 final matchup against Keller.
