Dickies Arena will be hosting two gaming world championships this September, the Fortnite Battle Royale Global Championship and the Rocket League World Championship.

The Fortnite event will be held September 7-8, and the Rocket League event will be held September 10-15.

Considered the most popular game in the world, Fortnite is a battle royale-style game developed by Epic Games. It has millions of fans who play the game across several platforms, reported Digital Trends.

The 2024 Fortnite Championship Series Global Championship in Fort Worth has a $2,002,000 prize pool and features competitive pairs from around the world.

Rocket League is described as “a hybrid of arcade-style soccer and vehicular mayhem.” Participants play on a team and work together to advance a giant soccer-style ball down the field using rocket-powered vehicles that can fly as they try to score goals in the other team’s net.

The championship in Fort Worth will feature an “Open Audience tournament” with 16 international teams and a prize pool of $1,165,000.

Jason Sands, vice president of sports at Visit Fort Worth and executive director of the Fort Worth Sports Commission, described last year’s Rocket League Championship Series as an “unbelievable event” that drew an audience of 9,000 people for the three-day tournament, reported the Fort Worth Report. “The energy and electricity in that building was off the charts. We anticipate that same type of attendance this time around this year, and there’s no indication it won’t be that way.”

He expects between 6,000 and 7,000 to attend this year’s event.

“We’re hoping to get up to those Rocket League numbers as well because I think people have kind of experienced that at Dickies Arena, and how fantastic a place that is to watch these specific types of events. We’re hopeful to get a sellout with Fortnite as well,” said Sands, per FWR.
