The WNBA has announced that Dallas Wings guard Paige Bueckers has won the 2025 Rookie of the Year award.

Bueckers easily claimed the award following an impressive rookie season, collecting 70 out of 72 possible first-place votes from a team of sportswriters and broadcasters.

Washington Mystics guard Sonia Citron was the only player to receive votes, finishing with two votes.

The rookie guard put together an incredible season during her first year in the WNBA, averaging 19.2 points, 3.9 rebounds, and 5.4 assists per game during her 36 total appearances.

Bueckers also led all rookies in total points, points per game, total assists, and assists per game, per The WNBA.

This stellar season included Bueckers finishing third all-time in both total points and total assists while collecting the second-most double-digit scoring games by a rookie with 35.

Winning the Rookie of the Year award also comes with certain prizes, as the WNBA stated that Bueckers will receive an additional $5,150 and a trophy that is meant to commemorate the moment.

Bueckers’ recognition is also a significant milestone for the Wings’ franchise, as this recognition is just the second time that a Dallas player has received this award after Allisha Gray claimed the award in 2017.

Although Bueckers was awarded one of the most prestigious awards a young player can receive, the Wings still struggled to collect wins during an injury-riddled season.

Dallas finished the 2025 season with a record of just 10-34, meaning the team was tied for the worst record in the entire WNBA and will hold the best odds to receive the first overall pick in the 2026 WNBA Draft, as previously reported by The Dallas Express.

The Wings will likely explore all options with whichever pick the franchise ends up securing, as a selection inside the top three is guaranteed. Still, Dallas is rumored to be considering selecting either a center or forward with one of the top picks in the draft.

Potential options for the team could be center Awa Fam or Lauren Betts, who would both be expected to play major roles for the Wings in their rookie seasons.
