With most Texas spotlights framed on the 2021 football season, the Dallas Stars are putting their bumpier past behind them for a fresh start in the hockey world.

Earlier in the 2019-20 season, the Dallas Stars improved lineup was halted by COVID-19 cancellations. The regular season was postponed, and after 142 days without any NHL hockey matches, the Stars resumed play against the Nashville Predators. The Dallas Stars were next faced with upcoming rounds of eliminations as the playoffs descended upon the league.

The Stars are somewhat infamous for not being able to finish through the second-round series, it being a decade since they have made it past. With a legendary-status overtime win, the Stars pushed into the Western Conference and then into the Stanley Cup Final for the first time in 20 years.

After a six-game crushing defeat over the Stanley Cup, the Stars retired to the offseason, with hopes of creating a powerhouse roster with some previous Stars heroes. The Dallas Stars finished the 2020 season 3rd in the Central Division, at 37 wins and 24 losses.

Tyler Seguin, who only played three games last year, is back on the roster and ready. Roope Hintz, Alexander Radulov, and Joel Hanley are all expected to make appearances after their surgeries and recovery last year.

Goalies for the Stars are still up in the air. No names have been formally announced as of now. According to Sports Illustrated Insiders, the goalie situation will likely be “a tandem of Khudobin and Braden Holtby.”

The Stars’ offensive production is predicted to be nothing special, but with a strong and physical defense supported by Ryan Suter and Jani Hakanpaa. The Stars’ outlook is bright, and they are expected to perform well in lower-scoring matches.
