The Dallas Cowboys’ season continues to swing “like a pogo stick,” according to the latest in-studio episode of Dallas Sports Network, as panelists` unloaded on the team’s collapsing defense and debated whether a bold trade can save the year.
Chris Yates opened the show with CEO of The Dallas Express Chris Putnam in studio and Scooter Magruder joining from Florida. Magruder said he felt “better than the Cowboys defense is doing” and described the unit as “utter incomplete dookie butter juice” in a parody fan reaction to the recent loss to the Denver Broncos.
Putnam called the Cowboys “a bad team,” noting that they have beaten only weak opponents and still have not strung together two straight wins. He argued that the team must prove it can handle quality competition before anyone talks about playoff potential.
The panel highlighted comments from head coach Brian Schottenheimer, who said coaches and players haven’t “done good enough” and stressed that Dak Prescott wants a Super Bowl more than an MVP award. Yates and Putnam praised Schottenheimer’s accountability but questioned whether the current defensive coordinator and personnel can turn things around.
Magruder predicted that Dallas will seek help before the trade deadline. He floated aggressive scenarios such as trading multiple first-round picks for star pass rusher Miles Garrett or acquiring defensive help like Jaelan Phillips and Minkah Fitzpatrick while keeping the first-round selections obtained in the Micah Parsons deal. He dismissed salary cap concerns, calling cap space “a myth” and pointing out that other franchises carry several large contracts.
The hosts also criticized owner Jerry Jones after he told the Wall Street Journal he focused on a major natural gas investment rather than trying to “fix our defense with the Cowboys.” They contrasted that with the team’s poor track record drafting defensive linemen since 2019, while noting some optimism around younger players such as Donovan Ezaraku and injured tackle Perrion Winfrey.
Looking ahead to the upcoming home game against the Arizona Cardinals, the crew labeled it a critical test. Magruder said a loss should push Dallas toward securing a high draft pick, while a win would keep the Cowboys in the NFC playoff hunt.
