The Dallas Mavericks is lifting its COVID-19 requirements. Fans can come and watch the games in person without being required to show individual proof of vaccination or a negative test.
According to Fox 4, the home opener against the Houston Rockets is on Tuesday, October 26th. The original requirements will still be in effect. NBC DFW stated, “Tuesday night’s home game against the Houston Rockets is too soon to implement the change in policy.”
Last month, the Mavericks updated their website, stating the mandate and what is expected of fans entering the American Airlines Center. According to NBC DFW, “Prior to Monday, the team planned to require all Mavericks ticket holders to be masked, and to show either proof of being fully vaccinated or proof of a negative COVID-19 test within the previous 48 hours.”
When that was shared, the owner of the Dallas Mavericks, Mark Cuban, stated, “…for the unvaxxed, if they don’t have COVID, just get a test, have a negative result, show it to us, and you are good to go. The only people that should have problems with this are people who can’t pass a COVID test and want to go to a game.”
For these requirements to stay lifted, COVID-19 cases need to stay below 500 cases a day in Dallas County. The Dallas Morning News explained Cuban’s decision to lift the requirements.
Cuban stated, “The reason for the change in plans is because the daily COVID numbers in Dallas County have recently dropped to an average of around 500 per day, as opposed to the 2,000 cases the county was averaging in late September when the stricter protocols were put in place.”
After Tuesday night’s home opener game, the only requirement that is still enforced will be that fans need to wear a mask except when they are eating or drinking.
