Dallas Cowboys cornerback Trevon Diggs underwent surgery on his left knee on Thursday and is expected to miss parts of training camp.

Diggs suffered this injury and attempted to play during the season, but the extent of the injury, combined with the Cowboys’ elimination from the playoffs, resulted in the cornerback being placed on injured reserve just before Week 16, per The Dallas Cowboys.

Diggs underwent a chondral tissue graft, which was meant to place pieces of bones and cartilage in the area to improve overall function. The timing of this surgery was due to the graft’s growth, per ESPN.

The good news for Diggs and the Cowboys is that this injury is unrelated to a previous tear of his anterior cruciate ligament, which kept him sidelined for most of the 2023 season.

After returning from the torn ACL in 2024, Diggs put together a solid season with 42 total tackles and 2 interceptions, which was tied for the most on the team despite playing fewer games than his three other teammates.

The two-time Pro Bowl cornerback has consistently shown the ability to take the ball away from other teams throughout his career, helping lead one of the most disruptive defenses in the league during his healthy seasons.

Diggs led the league with an incredible 11 interceptions during the 2021 season and followed up that performance with another three-interception season in 2022.

Although Diggs’s knee injuries are not related, the growing number of injuries should be a point of concern for a Cowboys team looking to step back into contention this coming season.

Dallas will likely begin to evaluate potential options at cornerback if Diggs misses more time in 2025 or is unable to perform to the level he has shown in the past.

Multiple options at the cornerback position will be available for the team in the upcoming free agency period, but the most likely outcome is that Dallas opts to save money and chooses to draft a player instead.
