Dallas Cowboys owner and general manager Jerry Jones said that he has not spoken to Micah Parsons since his trade request and is unsure whether he will play in the team’s season opener.
As previously reported by The Dallas Express, Parsons requested a trade last week following months of contract negotiations, claiming that the franchise had not contacted his agent to begin hammering out the details of an extension.
On Tuesday, Jones addressed these claims and proceeded to back up many of the accusations made by the four-time Pro Bowl defensive end.
When asked whether the front office has contacted David Mulugheta, Parsons’ agent, about a new contract, Jones said that no one has reached out at this point, adding that he has not spoken with Parsons since the trade was requested, per Ed Werner of WFAA.
Jones was later asked for clarification about the reports that he believes a deal was agreed upon earlier in the offseason, explaining that there was nothing written down and that he was instead relying on “eye contact and handshake.”
“I bought the Dallas Cowboys with a handshake. It took about 30 seconds. I gave the number, shook hands, the details we worked out later. As a matter of fact, one of the details involved a lot of money, and I had to flip a coin over that. But the fundamental, ‘I’m buying and you’re gonna sell it to me for that range,’ that’s done. And those are done with eye contact and handshake,” he said, per Jon Machota.
“Just so you understand the way that I communicate with people that I negotiate with. Let’s leave it at that. There’s is no question that in the case of a player contract, you have to have it in writing. All parties do. We have a contract in writing, yet we’re still talking about renegotiating, so so much for that.”
The bad news got worse for Cowboys fans, as Jones seemed concerned when asked whether he is confident that Parsons will take the field for the regular season opener against the Philadelphia Eagles.
Is Jerry Jones confident Micah Parsons will play in the opener? “No absolutely not,” he said. “A big part of it is his decision. How would I know that? … No but I’m urgent.”

Currently, there is no end in sight for this saga, as neither Parsons nor the Cowboys seemed prepared to pivot and complete a deal.
