Dallas Cowboys rookie defensive end Sam Williams was involved in a vehicle collision in Plano Thursday afternoon and taken to a local hospital for precautionary reasons.
Plano police said Williams was driving south on Preston Road in a Corvette when he crashed into a black Infiniti traveling northbound and attempting to turn west into Towne Square Drive around 2:15 p.m.
The vehicles collided, resulting in extensive debris that forced a partial shutdown on Preston Road until about 4:50 p.m., Plano police said.
No major injuries were suffered, but both parties were transported to a hospital for evaluation as a precaution. Williams was quickly discharged, a Cowboys official said.
No charges have been filed, and there is no indication alcohol or drugs were a factor in the incident, according to police.
While Williams had the right of way, police are investigating whether the speed at which he traveled may have contributed to the collision. Williams’ estimated speed at the time of the accident is still unknown.
Williams posted on Twitter around 6:30 p.m. to say both parties were okay.
“I’m okay, everyone, so is the other person involved,” Williams wrote.
The Cowboys’ medical team visited Williams, and they will re-evaluate him on Friday. The team’s official website says there is optimism that he will be able to play in Saturday’s matchup against the division-leading Philadelphia Eagles.
If Williams’ availability for Saturday is considered to be potentially impacted, he will be added to the team’s injury report following Friday’s practice.
Dallas selected the 23-year-old former standout at Ole Miss in the second round of the 2022 NFL Draft.
He has made an impact as a rookie, totaling 20 tackles, three sacks, a forced fumble, three fumble recoveries, and one pass deflection.
