Dallas Cowboys star linebacker Micah Parsons’ spectacular rookie season has earned him the No.16 spot on the NFL’s top 100 list, making him the fifth highest-ranked defensive player in the league.

At just 23 years old, the unanimous NFL defensive rookie of the year has clearly done enough to earn the respect of his peers, as NFL players vote on the annual top 100 rankings.

Parsons took the league by storm as a rookie, lining up all over the field and becoming the anchor for the Dallas defense with 84 total tackles, a whopping 13 sacks, 20 tackles for loss, and three forced fumbles. His 13 sacks were the sixth most in the league, and he also finished second in voting for Defensive Player of the Year.

As he enters his sophomore campaign, Parsons expects to improve his numbers and has had an exceptional training camp to back up his expectations.

The NFL’s Top 100 for 2022 also included five other Cowboys players.

Cornerback Trevon Diggs earned the No.23 ranking after recording 11 interceptions during the regular season. Diggs tied Everson Walls’ Cowboys franchise record for most interceptions in a single season when he picked off Washington quarterback Taylor Heinicke on December 26, 2021.

Diggs landed three spots ahead of his brother, Buffalo Bills wide receiver Stefon Diggs, who came in at No.26.

At No.44 was quarterback Dak Prescott, who had a strong 2021 season after suffering a season-ending ankle injury early in the 2020 season. Prescott passed for 4,449 yards during the regular season last year, completing 68.8% of his passes with 37 touchdowns and 10 interceptions.

Prescott was not in the 2021 rankings after his injury but was ranked No.46 in the 2020 NFL Top 100.

Guard Zack Martin was the next highest ranked Cowboy, at No.68 in the top 100. Martin has been a consistent and solid presence on the Dallas offensive line, earning a spot in the top 100 for the sixth consecutive season.

Martin was No.85 in last year’s rankings but jumped up the list after starting 16 games last season and earning First Team All-Pro honors and his seventh Pro Bowl selection.

The next highest ranked Cowboy in the rankings is left tackle Tyron Smith at No.92. Smith has battled injuries throughout his career but has always been one of the top tackles in the lead when healthy.

Smith was not ranked in the 2021 rankings after an injury-riddled season. His last appearance in the top 100 was as the No.78 player in the 2020 rankings.

Smith will unlikely appear on next year’s rankings again due to injuries. He went down in training camp last week with what turned out to be an avulsion fracture of the knee, and the injury is expected to force him to miss a majority of the regular season.

Wide receiver CeeDee Lamb rounds out the Cowboys’ players in the top 100, coming in at No.95. It is Lamb’s debut on the list after being drafted in the first round of the 2020 NFL Draft out of Oklahoma.

Lamb had 79 catches for 1,102 yards and six touchdowns in the 2021 regular season.

The Cowboys will open the regular season at home against Tom Brady and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on September 11 on NBC’s Sunday Night Football.

So what? The Cowboys will still be a losing team.
