The Dallas Cowboys suffered another tough home loss on Sunday, falling 34-6 to the Philadelphia Eagles.
The sting is starting to set in for the Cowboys, as for the first time in NFL history a team has now set a record for trailing by 20 or more points in five consecutive home games. Additionally, in their four home games throughout this season, the Cowboys have lost by an average of 23.5 points, per the NFL.
An unwanted record, dating back to the Cowboys’ playoff loss to the Green Bay Packers earlier this calendar year, shows a troubling trend at Jerry Jones’ AT&T Stadium. Simply, the Cowboys just have not been able to find any success on their own turf as they continue to extend this losing streak.
After the recent loss against the Eagles, Coach Mike McCarthy was left scrambling for answers. However, Sunday’s loss wasn’t even the worst defeat the Cowboys have faced so far, as they fell 47-9 to the Detroit Lions earlier this season.
Some critics claim that Jerry Jones has helped foster a culture within the Cowboys’ organization that places greater emphasis on publicity than on-field performance, as previously reported by The Dallas Express.
“People follow us year ‘round. The owner every now and then gets in the paper. It just adds to the interest, all of it. People love that,” Jones previously told NBC Sports.
Despite their recent struggles, the Cowboys continue to draw impressive crowds at AT&T Stadium. The team still leads the league in home attendance, with an average of 93,636 fans filling the stands for each home game, according to ESPN.
The Cowboys, once considered a Super Bowl contender by some analysts in the preseason, will now need to regroup before their next home game on Monday against the Houston Texans, with their home record looming at 0-4.
