The Dallas Cowboys will host a workout for five former NFL and UFL players looking to make the roster for training camp in July.

Dallas began a mandatory minicamp this week as nearly 100 players hope to solidify their spots on the Cowboys’ depth chart for the 2025 NFL season.

The Cowboys have had success in the past with players who spent time in other leagues. The team most recently hit home runs with wide receiver and kick returner Kavontae Turpin and kicker Brandon Aubrey.

Executive Vice President and Director of Player Personnel Stephen Jones said during organized team activities that this success has kept the front office “paying attention” to players who could make similar shifts to the NFL.

“So we’re watching that, in terms of those guys are doing a good job over there to see if there’s anybody that can help us over here. We’ll keep our eyes on who’s available,” he added, per the Dallas Cowboys.

Now, the franchise has decided to consider five more players who could potentially make the roster.

Perrion Winfrey, Defensive Tackle

The most well-known player among the group is 24-year-old defensive tackle Winfrey, who is looking to make a return to the NFL after spending the 2024 season playing for the Birmingham Stallions in the UFL.

Prior to his stint in the UFL, Winfrey most recently played for the New York Jets in 2023, where he played in just one game and collected three total tackles.

Although Winfrey rarely saw the field while with the Jets, he played for current Cowboys defensive line coach Aaron Whitecotton, indicating that the team believes he can make the roster.

DeVere Levelston, Defensive Tackle

Levelston is the other defensive lineman invited to the Cowboys’ workout. The DeSoto, Texas native spent the past season as a member of the Memphis Showboats.

Levelston played football at SMU before being picked up by the Seattle Seahawks as an undrafted free agent in 2024. He chose to finish the season with the Showboats to refine his skills for an eventual return to the NFL.

Robert Rochell, Cornerback

Rochell has not spent any time in the UFL but has bounced around multiple teams in the NFL since being selected in the fourth round of the 2021 draft.

The 27-year-old previously spent time with the Los Angeles Rams and Green Bay Packers, where he played a total of 48 games across four seasons in the league.

Rochell has not proven to be the most reliable player on the field, but Dallas needs depth at the cornerback position, and a player with nearly 50 games under his belt could help provide stability in that position.

Jerry Jacobs, Cornerback

Dallas once again doubles down at a position and will also take a look at Jacobs, who spent three seasons with the Detroit Lions from 2021 to 2023.

Jacobs collected four interceptions during the 38 games he played with the Lions, though he has not played football at a high level since his time in Detroit.

Similar to Rochell, Jacobs could struggle to see the field for the Cowboys due to the number of defensive backs on the roster, but he can make the team as a depth piece.

George Fant, Offensive Tackle

Finally, Dallas decided to bring in Fant as a player who could compete with the other offensive linemen for a spot on the roster.

Fant will enter this workout as the most tenured player in this group, having played 101 games in the NFL and making 75 starts as an offensive tackle.

The 32-year-old spent most of his career with the Seahawks while working with the Jets and Houston Texans.

Dallas currently has a solid group of offensive linemen as a whole, but the majority of their backup options are better suited for the interior offensive line.

Fant could serve as a reliable backup for a team that needs depth and experience at the offensive tackle position.
