The Dallas Cowboys will play the Washington Commanders today at noon in a Week 12 divisional matchup that has important implications for both teams.

These two teams are currently engulfed in vastly different seasons. The Commanders have exceeded expectations by collecting a record of 7-4, while the Cowboys have been one of the most disappointing teams in the league, with a record of just 3-7.

Washington has an opportunity to move further toward the postseason with a win while staying within striking distance of the Philadelphia Eagles for first place in the NFC East Division. A win would guarantee them a home game in the first round of the playoffs.

On the other hand, Dallas is in the midst of a five-game losing streak that seemingly has no end in sight, and the Cowboys are likely to miss multiple key players in this game.

Dallas has already ruled out safety Markquese Bell, offensive lineman Zack Martin, tight end Jake Ferguson, cornerback Trevon Diggs, and wide receiver Brandin Cooks for Week 12.

Defensive end Marshawn Kneeland and offensive lineman Tyler Smith are also listed as questionable for Week 12.

The Cowboys have continued to struggle this season due to various factors and now have incredibly low odds of making the postseason. This means the front office has likely shifted its focus onto the upcoming offseason and began searching for ways to improve the team.

Although everyone within the Cowboys’ organization is still looking to win games the rest of the year, many fans have already pointed to the possibility that the Cowboys could obtain a high selection in the 2025 NFL Draft.

Dallas has a history of selecting the correct players when given the opportunity, but this chance rarely comes along with an organization that consistently makes the playoffs and competes for divisional titles.

The Cowboys have acquired just two draft selections in the top 12 over the last decade, selecting running back Ezekiel Elliott and linebacker Micah Parson with those two selections.

While these selections did not result in a Super Bowl victory for the Cowboys, both players have become meaningful contributors to the organization during their times in Dallas.

Dallas is projected to finish with the ninth overall selection in the NFL Draft. Though more wins this season would not result in a playoff appearance, they would move the Cowboys further down in the draft.
