The Dallas Cowboys have announced the signing of defensive tackle Linval Joseph as the team continues to bolster its defensive line following multiple injuries and departures over the past few months.
Dallas signed the veteran to a one-year contract with a base salary of $2.5 million. However, he could earn up to $4 million if he meets certain criteria during the season, according to Mike Garafolo.
Joseph will be reuniting with Cowboys defensive coordinator Mike Zimmer after the two spent six seasons together as members of the Minnesota Vikings, where Joseph saw the most success in his career.
Joseph will be joining his third team in as many years after spending the past two seasons with the Philadelphia Eagles and Buffalo Bills as he looks to find stability on which to end his career.
During the 2023 season with Buffalo, Joseph accumulated 12 total tackles and one sack, though he played in just seven games, being a midseason addition to the roster.
Joseph joining the Cowboys comes as the team looks to improve a defensive line that recently suffered an ACL and MCL injury to tackle Sam Williams, who will now miss the entire 2024 season as he rehabs, as previously reported by The Dallas Express.
The franchise also lost defensive ends Dorance Armstrong and Dante Fowler to the Washington Commanders in free agency, as well as defensive tackles Neville Gallimore and Johnathan Hankins to the Miami Dolphins and Seattle Seahawks.
Despite the Cowboys losing multiple high-level players during the offseason, owner Jerry Jones has continuously claimed that the team is going all-in to win the final game of the season.
Dallas is also currently wrapped up in contract negotiations with various key players on the team, including quarterback Dak Prescott and wide receiver Ceedee Lamb.
While Prescott and the Cowboys have reportedly made little progress on a long-term extension, the franchise has been in close contact with Lamb regarding a deal that would keep him with the team for years to come.
The Cowboys have reportedly offered Lamb just under a yearly average of $33 million in a potential new deal. Still, it remains unclear whether the receiver will accept it, as previously reported by DX.
The good news for the Cowboys is that the franchise still has weeks before the beginning of the regular season. The preseason is scheduled to conclude with one final game against the Los Angeles Chargers on Saturday at 3 p.m. CT.
