The Dallas Cowboys have continued an eventful offseason with the announcement that three assistant coaches have joined the staff of new Head Coach Brian Schottenheimer.
Dallas announced on Wednesday that the organization has hired Dave Borgonzi as the new linebackers coach, Andre Curtis as the new defensive pass game coordinator, and Aaron Whitecotton as the new defensive line coach to join the team for the 2025 season.
Borgonzi will once again join new Defensive Coordinator Matt Eberflus after spending the last three seasons working as the linebackers coach for the Chicago Bears.
This hire comes as no surprise, as Eberflus became familiar with Borgonzi over the past three seasons in Chicago. The two coaches spent time working on the coaching staff of the Indianapolis Colts for the four prior seasons.
Similarly, Curtis has experience working with both Schottenheimer and Eberflus throughout his career, making him the clear candidate to become the Cowboys’ defensive pass game coordinator.
Curtis spent seven seasons working with the Seattle Seahawks as a defensive backs coach and defensive pass game coordinator, overlapping with Schottenheimer for three seasons in that span.
Curtis followed this stint in Seattle by joining Chicago as the Bears’ safeties coach during the three-year tenure of Eberflus as the head coach.
Whitecotton, who spent the previous four seasons with the New York Jets in the same role, is the only new coach hired by the Cowboys who does not have previous ties with Schottenheimer or Eberflus.
Whitecotton was one of the most sought-after coaches in this hiring cycle due to his work in New York over the past four years, helping turn the Jets’ defensive line into one of the most impactful in the league.
While Dallas has now filled various roles on the defensive staff for the 2025 season, multiple hires must still be made for the offense before the season begins.
Despite Schottenheimer being expected to call plays in games during his first season as head coach, the Cowboys still need to officially hire an offensive coordinator to help guide that side of the ball.
Dallas has completed an interview with Arizona Cardinals offensive line coach Klayton Adams and is expected to interview various other candidates for the role.
However, according to Sports Illustrated, Adams is considered the top candidate to take the position.
Following the eventual hire of a new offensive coordinator, the organization will find assistant coaches to help support the offense even further.
