Conference tournament action continued throughout college basketball Friday afternoon.
Here is what happened on the court and behind the scenes.
North Texas (26-7,16-4, second in Conference USA)
Last Game: UAB 76, North Texas 69
North Texas was eliminated in the Conference USA semifinals after a seven-point loss to UAB.
The Mean Green scored only two points in the 12:46 of the game and quickly found themselves down by 20.
UNT made one final run, trimming a 13-point lead to just two on a Rubin Jones layup after a Kai Huntsberry steal. However, North Texas missed its last three shots, allowing UAB to finish the win.
Noteworthy: UNT had beaten UAB in both matchups during the regular season. On Friday, the Mean Green was never able to take the lead despite having four players score in double figures. UAB’s Jordan Walker scored 32 points, his sixth game with at least 30 this season.
Next Up: The Mean Green likely heads to the NIT after a record-setting season. The Mean Green could have made the NCAA Tournament by winning the Conference USA Tournament, but an at-large bid now seems unlikely. UNT was not projected to make the NCAA field entering Friday’s game and has not made the Tournament since 2021.
