The matchup for Super Bowl LIX is officially set for February 9 as the Kansas City Chiefs will take on the Philadelphia Eagles in a rematch of Super Bowl LVII.
Kansas City defeated the Buffalo Bills on Sunday night 32-29, with quarterback Patrick Mahomes leading the way with an impressive 288 total yards and three total touchdowns.
On the other side of the NFL Playoff Bracket, the Philadelphia Eagles took down the Washington Commanders 55-23 behind 118 rushing yards and three touchdowns from Saquon Barkley.
These two teams will now begin preparing for the biggest game of the season.
Kansas City is seeking its third consecutive Super Bowl victory, which would make it the first time in the league that the team has completed a three-peat since the 1966 merger between the NFL and the American Football League.
Meanwhile, Philadelphia has won the NFC for the fifth time in franchise history and is now looking to win its second Super Bowl.
Super Bowl LIX will not be the first time these two teams have played in the final game of the season. Kansas City defeated Philadelphia 38-35 in Super Bowl LVII.
Although many members of these teams have remained the same over the past few seasons, the two rosters also have multiple differences.
One of the biggest additions between the two teams is Philadelphia’s signing of Barkley during the offseason for a contract worth just $37.75 million over three years.
Barkley has quickly become one of the most impactful free agency signings in NFL history and could be the most important player in the Super Bowl.
The seventh-year running back became just the ninth player in NFL history to rush for over 2,000 yards in a single season, finishing the year with 2,005 rushing yards and adding 13 rushing touchdowns.
However, Barkley’s most impactful moments from the season have come during the playoffs, where he has combined for 442 rushing yards and five rushing touchdowns.
Similarly, Kansas City has made various additions to the team over the past few seasons, including multiple offensive pieces that have joined the roster this season.
The Chiefs began the season with a slew of injuries, prompting the organization to trade for wide receiver Deandre Hopkins and sign running back Kareem Hunt during the regular season.
Kansas City has also begun to rely heavily on rookie wide receiver Xavier Worthy, who struggled to begin the season but has found his rhythm throughout the end of the regular season and playoffs.
Worthy had the best game of his career on the biggest stage against the Bills, contributing a career-high 85 receiving yards and one touchdown to help secure the win.
