Dallas Cowboys super wide receiver CeeDee Lamb is officially back with the organization after the two sides agreed on a contract extension that will keep him with the team for the foreseeable future.
Lamb and the Cowboys agreed on a four-year contract extension worth $136 million, including $100 million in guarantees and the largest signing bonus by a wide receiver in NFL history at $38 million, as reported by Tom Pelissero of the NFL Network.
This contract makes Lamb the second highest-paid receiver in the league behind only Minnesota Vikings wide receiver Justin Jefferson, who re-signed with his team on a four-year contract worth $140 million in June, per Adam Schefter of ESPN.
Lamb is coming off one of the best receiving seasons in the entire NFL last season, leading the league with 135 receptions and the second-most receiving yards with 1,749.
The All-Pro receiver also finished with the third most receiving touchdowns of any player in the league with 12, finishing behind only Miami Dolphins receiver Tyreek Hill and Tampa Bay Buccaneers receiver Mike Evans.
Lamb had previously opted to hold out of the Cowboys’ training camp while the two sides negotiated a contract extension, a common move by players looking to avoid a serious injury during discussions.
Dallas had reportedly been skeptical about offering the wide receiver a record-breaking contract, as The Dallas Express reported that Lamb was being offered an extension that was worth slightly under an average of $33 million a year.
The Cowboys will now turn their attention to quarterback Dak Prescott, who is set to enter the final year of his contract and could become an unrestricted free agent if he does not re-sign with the team by the end of the 2024 season.
Prescott could become the first player in NFL history to sign with a team on a contract worth an average of $60 million a season; however, the two sides have seemingly been at an impasse regarding the details of his extension, as previously reported by The Dallas Express.
While the Cowboys front office is focused on re-signing the star quarterback, the team is preparing for the beginning of the 2024 regular season in less than two weeks.
Dallas will begin the season by traveling to Cleveland to take on quarterback Deshaun Watson and the Browns on September 8 at 3:25 p.m.
