The Detroit Pistons have decided to hire Monty Williams as their next coach, multiple media outlets reported Thursday.

The Athletic, ESPN, the Detroit Free Press and The Detroit News say the former Phoenix Suns coach has agreed to a record-setting contract.

Williams will sign a six-year deal worth $78.5 million. That will exceed the $11 million the Spurs pay Coach Gregg Popovich, who is the NBA’s highest-paid coach, The Detroit News reported.
