For the first time in seven years, Texas has made the Little League Baseball World Series finals.
The Boerne, Texas, team representing the Southwest Region managed to beat the undefeated Henderson, Nevada, team representing the Mountain Region.
The Boerne team may have to face the Henderson team yet again, however, as Henderson now gets to play the Southeast Region team, Florida, and the winner of that game will play Boerne for the U.S. title. The U.S. champion will then face the international champion in the World Series Championship.
The U.S. championship game will take place on Saturday at 2:30 p.m. CDT on ABC.
KXAN reports on Boerne’s epic win over Henderson before a crowd of over 9,000 spectators. Here’s the start of the story:
Boerne is one win away from having the best Little League Baseball team in the country.
Boerne topped Henderson, Nevada 5-2 on Wednesday to advance to the United States bracket championship at the Little League World Series in South Williamsport, Pennsylvania. Nevada drops into the loser’s bracket but can earn a rematch for the U.S. title if they win their next game. Florida beat Hawai’i 4-3 in an elimination game Wednesday night and will play Nevada on Thursday with the winner of that getting another shot at Boerne.
The Southwest region champs smacked eight hits and used a 3-run third inning to propel themselves into the U.S. title game. Julian Hurst drove in a run with a single to break a 2-2 tie, then Gray Collins hit a line drive for a double to plate Ben Burkhart. Cooper Hastings hit a deep fly ball to center field that allowed Hurst to tag up and score from third base to give Boerne a 5-2 advantage.
