Baylor first baseman Tyce Armstrong delivered one of the rarest performances in college baseball history on February 13, hitting three grand slams in the Bears’ season-opening 15-2 win over New Mexico State at Baylor Ballpark in Waco.

According to MLB.com, Armstrong became just the second college player on record to hit three grand slams in a single game. The outlet reported that Louisville’s Jim LaFountain accomplished the feat in 1976.

Armstrong, a redshirt senior from Magnolia and a first-year transfer from Oral Roberts, drove in 12 runs in the victory.

His first grand slam came in the third inning, extending Baylor’s early lead. He followed with another bases-loaded home run in the fourth inning before adding a third in the seventh to cap the historic night.

The final blast pushed Baylor’s lead into double digits, triggering the run rule and ending the game after seven innings.

While rare at the collegiate level, such power displays are even uncommon in Major League Baseball. MLB.com noted that only 13 Major League players have ever hit two grand slams in the same game.

Armstrong’s performance gives Baylor early momentum to open the 2026 season.
