AT&T Stadium is among the venues that the Confederation of North, Central America, and Caribbean Association Football (Concacaf) has chosen as a host site for the 2023 Gold Cup.
The 2023 tournament will be the 17th installment of the Gold Cup and the sixth time AT&T Stadium has served as a host site. It will also provide a potential trial run as the stadium prepares to host parts of the FIFA World Cup in 2026.
“We are honored to welcome Concacaf back this summer for the Gold Cup,” Monica Paul, executive director of the Dallas Sports Commission, told The Dallas Express. “Hosting the tournament is another prime opportunity for our community to showcase our commitment to the growth of soccer in North America.”
“The host cities and venues we have selected all have strong track records of hosting elite football and world-class events,” Concacaf President and FIFA Vice President Victor Montagliani said in a release. “I want to thank each and every one of them for their commitment to Concacaf, to our Gold Cup, and to our sport. This is a tremendous time for football in the region with Nations Leagues, men’s and women’s Gold Cups, and other exciting national team and club competitions taking place over the next three years as we head towards the FIFA World Cup 2026.
“I look forward with great anticipation to watching the Gold Cup Prelims in June and enjoying compelling football involving all the Gold Cup teams right through to the Final and crowning a champion in Los Angeles on July 16.”
The Gold Cup has been played every two years since 1991 and consists of men’s national soccer teams from countries in North America, Central America, and the Caribbean.
The tournament will take place in 15 stadiums across the United States and Canada from June 16 to July 16, featuring 16 teams.
Other cities hosting the Gold Cup include Houston, San Diego, Toronto, Cincinnati, Chicago, Harrison, New Jersey; Las Vegas, Santa Clara, Los Angeles/Inglewood, Charlotte, St. Louis, and Glendale/Phoenix.
The teams will be split into four groups, determined by a live draw led by Montagliani at 2 p.m. Friday.
Thirteen teams have already been determined. Curaçao, Grenada, Martinique, Suriname, Guyana, French Guiana, Guadeloupe, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Puerto Rico, Saint Maarten, and Trinidad and Tobago will play preliminary matches in Miami to determine the final three qualifiers.
SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California, will host the championship match on July 16, marking the 10th consecutive and 15th overall Gold Cup Final played in the U.S. The 1993 and 2003 Gold Cup Finals took place in Mexico City.
Mexico has the most Gold Cup championship wins with eight. The United States, the defending champion, has seven. Canada has one.
