The Argyle Eagles golf team left little intrigue in racing out to a Class 4A state title, lapping the field by 22 strokes for their first title since 2017.

Gaven Lane led the way for the winners, placing second in individual medal competition to the delight of Eagles’ fans everywhere.

“State champions,” the Argyle Booster Club posted on its Twitter page. “The Argyle Eagles Golf team wins the UIL Texas 4A State Championship.”

Even as the second day of the event was cut short by inclement weather, there was little that could dampen the Eagles’ spirits.

“I’m so happy for my seniors,” Argyle coach Cody Vanderford said on the school’s website. “It’s great that they got to end their careers with gold medals! We have known all year that we were one of the best teams and we played like it for the entire year. They were unflappable at the state tournament and it was a joy to coach them.”

The team of Lane, Zane Griggs, Blake Kelly, Justus Christman and Ethan Payne finished with a final score of 464.

The Argyle girls were also victorious, marking the first time that the boys and girls teams from the same school won state titles since 2019.
