Dallas Mavericks power forward Anthony Davis has announced that he will wear protective eyewear for the remainder of his career following eye surgery during the offseason.
As previously reported by The Dallas Express, Davis underwent eye surgery in the offseason to repair a detached retina that he suffered during the 2024-25 regular season.
Davis stated during the Mavericks’ media day that he plans to wear protective eyewear for “the rest” of his career, which was a decision that was mandated by his doctors, according to NBA Insider Marc Stein.

Although this surgery was initially expected to sideline Davis for a short period during the 2025-26 regular season, Mavericks Head Coach Jason Kidd has confirmed that Davis, and nearly every other player on the roster, will be a full participant when the team begins training camp.
Davis starting the season for the Mavericks will be a major boost for this team entering the season, as the 6-foot-10-inch power forward is expected to be the most critical player on the team in the upcoming season.
Despite playing through injuries for a large portion of last season, Davis managed to contribute 24.7 points, 11.6 rebounds, and 2.2 blocks during his 51 appearances with the Mavericks and Los Angeles Lakers.
Dallas will look to start the season strong, with training camp beginning on Tuesday, followed by the team’s preseason opener against the Oklahoma City Thunder on Monday, October 6.
The Mavericks will have a total of four preseason games before the 2025-26 regular season, which is scheduled to begin on Wednesday, October 22, in a matchup against the San Antonio Spurs, as previously reported by DX.
This matchup will mark the third straight season the teams have matched up in the season opener and will feature two of the most well-known rookies in the league, as first overall pick Cooper Flagg will take on second overall pick Dylan Harper.
