Actress Dawn Olivieri is giving viewers another look inside Moon Mountain Sanctuary and Rescue, where roughly 200 horses and other animals are getting a second chance.
In the latest episode of Let’s Talk Local, host Sarah Zubiate Bennett tours the Arkansas sanctuary as Olivieri shares the stories behind several rescues and the major improvements underway across the property.
One of those animals is Star, an early rescue who arrived severely ill with strangles. Olivieri recalls arriving at the sanctuary around 3 a.m. and working with volunteers in the rain to begin treatment.
“She is like such a success story,” Olivieri said.
The episode also introduces Maximus, a young horse Olivieri says arrived with mobility problems and a damaged eye, and gives viewers a look at barn renovations designed to improve stalls, drainage, sanitation and treatment space.
Olivieri also discusses what she says rescue organizations have learned about animal-trafficking pipelines and why she believes greater awareness could protect vulnerable animals during transport.
For Olivieri, every opening at Moon Mountain means another chance to rescue an animal.
“When we have space, we just open up more room,” she said. “I literally go out there and grab a bunch and bring them over here. I’m like, you’re good. And you’re safe.”
