Richardson ISD trustee hopeful Clair wants to honor ‘a promise to our students’

Amanda Clair, one of 10 candidates for the Richardson ISD Board of Trustees, wants to use her experience as an educator and leader to continue the positive momentum created by former trustees if elected on May 1.

Clair told the Dallas Express that she wants to continue to build on the commitment the district has made to meeting the needs of all students and families.

“We have made a promise to our students and their families that we will prepare them for college and a career. However, when we break the data down and look at how various demographics on how our students are performing, there are disparities that indicate this is not being met,” Clair said. “As board members our job is to set board goals that support the school district in meeting the instructional needs of all students.”

Clair said that she believes in the power of education and what a strong school community can do for students both now and once they graduate and begin their adult lives.

“I know what it means to place the future of my children in the hands of RISD schools that are working to provide the best education possible for students in the community,” she said. “I believe in the hard work and care that teachers provide for their students and want to ensure that teachers and schools have the resources to continue that work.”

As a former teacher, coach, and campus administrator as well as the current the mother of three children and an educational consultant, Clair said that she is the only candidate for Place 7 who brings such a mixture of experiences and qualifications to the table.

“I understand the impact of decisions a board makes impacts at multiple levels of a students educational experience and am committed to ensuring we do this collectively with voices at each level along the way,” she said.

Clair said that the district should be focused on providing high-quality curriculum and resources grounded in data, and ensuring that problems related to racism or any other factor that could negatively affect a student’s education are addressed.
