Two massive new data center projects are slated for North Texas, but so far, the details remain scarce.

Codenamed Project Orange and Project Labrador, the developments could see more than two million square feet of data centers brought to Lancaster, roughly 16 miles south of Dallas.

Lancaster is not a stranger to data center developments. Last year, The Dallas Express reported that Denver-based STACK Infrastructure was moving forward with a plan to build a data center campus on more than 100 acres in the community. At full build-out, the campus is expected to cover 1.5 million square feet across six separate facilities.

The newly revealed projects will see even more space allocated to the booming tech in Lancaster.

City information shows that Project Orange could span 116 acres at 201 Sunrise Road and include seven facilities, each just over a quarter-million square feet in size, with 36 megawatts of power capacity.

Not far away, Project Labrador would occupy 419 acres at 1401 Greene Road. This development could see five data center buildings, according to city staff.

Zoning changes for both projects were given the green light by the Lancaster City Council during an August 11 meeting, as was a development agreement with the site’s owner, WHL Dallas 45 LLC.

As previously reported in The Dallas Express, North Texas remains a prime location for data center developments. The region even surpassed Silicon Valley as a more desirable region for the facilities.
